1 Identifying device

    First, check whether you have a compatible device. The speed camera database is suitable for these devices:

2 Free sample file

    The free sample file for UK allows you to test if POIs can be installed on your navigation device.
    Install sample file according to this installation guide.
    Afterwards search in your map for 50mph speed cameras.
    Find available speed cameras in our speed camera map.

    Download sample file

    Try before purchase. Refund excluded after download started of full database.

 

3 Download speed cameras

  1. Go to our page for TomTom.
    Fixed and mobile speed cameras are available for downloading. Choose your needs.
    Press button Download.

  2. Make your decision on the download page for fixed speed cameras.
    Use preselection on the left or country list on the right.
    Press CTRL key for multiple choice.

  3. Choose your speed camera icon.
    Import of icons is possible in many devices (not all devices). Select one of the available options.
    See sample icons under each option. The number of speed cameras is the same for each option.

    Select also icon size: small, medium or large.
    Try by yourself what is looking best in your device.

  4. Press button Download Now.
    Save file tomtom.zip on your hard disc.

    Note: In most cases, the file is saved directly to the download folder of the computer. Depending on your browser settings, sometimes you can choose the save location by yourself.

  5. Unpack the zip file.

    Unpacking on a Windows computer: right-klick on the zip file > Extract all...
    Unpacking on a Mac Computer: double-klick on the zip file.

  6. You get the folder tomtom.
    It contains one or more files as 2 types: OV2 (speedcams) and BMP (icons).

    The number of files depends on your select in step 1 and step 2.

    We loaded speed cameras for Europe, splitted in all categories. File names let you know about the file content.
    Speed values are unitless. It can refer to mph (Great Britain) and kph (Continental Europe).
    Example: British speedcam 30mph and German speedcam 30kph are included in file SCDB_Speed_30.ov2 (if you selected these countries).

4 Install speed cameras

  1. There are 3 different methods to install speed camera POIs:
    Method 1: Copy POI files into map folder
    Method 2: Route planner by MyDrive
    Method 3: Add community content with MyDrive
    R-Link Explorer

    Notes for method 1
    Older TomTom devices are shown as flash drives in your computer. You only need to copy and paste speedcam files into the map folder.
    Use this method also for devices with SD cards (e.g. Mazda NB1, Mazda Navigation AVN1).

    Notes for methods 2 and 3
    New TomTom devices are not shown as flash drives in your computer. In that case you have to use software MyDrive Connect for connecting device and computer. We cannot say if method 2 (Route planner) or method 3 (Add community content) will work with your device. Please try both methods. Examples:

4.1 Method 1: Copy POI files into map folder

Use this method when your device is shown as a flash drive in your computer.

  1. Switch on your TomTom device.

  2. Connect device to computer. Wait till connection is ready.

  3. Open Windows Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
    TomTom device should be shown as flash drive in your computer.

  4. Search for map folder on device.

    The map folder can have several names (e.g. Europe or Western_and_Central_Europe or Western_Europe).
    Send us your screenshots in case of any help.

  5. Copy and paste unzipped OV2 and BMP files into your map folder.

  6. Disconnect device from computer.

  7. Go forward to capter 5: Enable alerts.

 

4.2 Install software TomTom MyDrive Connect

Use software MyDrive Connect when your device is not recognized as flash drive.

  1. Load and install software MyDrive from TomTom.
    Free download from TomTom MyDrive website.

    You need a TomTom account as well.
    Here you can create new account.

  2. Switch on your TomTom device.
    Connect device to computer.
    Start MyDrive Connect.

  3. Sign in to your TomTom account.

    Register your TomTom in My devices.
    Next steps can not be performed until the TomTom device is properly connected to MyDrive Connect.

     

    There are two different installation methods for MyDrive Connect. If in doubt, try both methods:
    Method 2: Route planner by MyDrive
    Method 3: Add community content with MyDrive

 

4.2.1 Method 2: Route planner by MyDrive

  1. Open link: https://mydrive.tomtom.com.
    TomTom website opens in a browser tab.
    Sign in to your TomTom account.

  2. Click Route Planner > My Places > POI files > Import POI file.

    Click Select File and choose OV2 file.

    Click Import.

    Repeat the steps for all OV2 files.

  3. Files will be transfered automatically to TomTom device.
    Disconnect when synchronization is finished.
    Not: Message should appear in the upper right corner: Synchronization succeed!

    4. Note: Although the POI file is very small, MyDrive needs at least 400 MB of free space in your navigation device (internal drive). To sync OV2 files with your navigation device, your device needs at least 400 MB of free space. The software MyDrive will be unable to sync when you have less free space. We recommend to delete some countries/maps and POI files which are not in use to get more free space. Or upgrade your TomTom device with a larger memory.

  4. Go forward to capter 5: Enable alerts.

 

4.2.2 Method 3: Add community content with MyDrive

  1. Right click on MyDrive Connect icon in the system tray.
    Select Manage community content.

    Open link http://169.254.255.1/pcmi/.
    Note: The link can only be opened if the device is registered in MyDrive Connect and correctly connected to MyDrive Connect.

    TomTom website will open in a browser tab.
    Click Browse.

  2. Search for folder tomtom with unzipped speedcam files.
    Click an OV2 file. For example: SCDB_Section_20.ov2 (SCDB_Abschnitt_20.ov2).
    Click Open.

    Click Install.

    Updating your device.
    Please wait.

  3. Click Browse again.

    Click associated BMP file. For example: SCDB_Section_20.bmp (SCDB_Abschnitt_20.bmp).
    Click Open.

    Click Install.

    First POI file has installed with icon.

  4. Repeat last steps for all OV2 files.
    Note: The number of files depends on your select in step 1 and step 2 on download page.
    Finally it could look like that:

 

4.3 Installation using R-Link Explorer

Use this installation method for Renault R-Link (except R-Link 2) and smart Media-System with TomTom Navigation (smart 453)

  1. Make sure to create a backup of the TomTom memory card before you begin with R-Link Explorer! (very important!)

  2. Search for the software R-Link Explorer (Source: Djeman13).
    You'll find the download link and an informative video on a friendly speed camera website. ;)
    Download the R-Link Explorer software and install it on your computer.

  3. Launch R-Link Explorer.
    Click File > Open File.
    Select the drive of the memory card.
    Choose the TOMTOM.000 file on the memory card.
    Click Open.

    R-Link Explorer will display the contents of the memory card on the right side (Virtual devices browser).

    Open the directory ext00: > common > installed > locations.

  4. R-Link Explorer will show the drives of your computer on the left side (Local Browser).
    Open the directory where the extracted speed camera files are located (e.g., C: > Users > Downloads > tomtom).

  5. Select all speed camera files (CTRL + A).
    Move all speed camera files from the left side to the right side.

  6. Proceed to Chapter 5: Enable alerts.

 

5 Enable alerts

Note: The appearance and menus may look different. It depends on device and software version.
If necessary browse through all menus of your device.

 

  1. Go to Main > Settings > POI settings > Warn when approaching a POI (Einstellungen > POIs verwalten > In der Nähe des POI warnen).

  2. Search for SCDB categories.
    Start with first category. For example: SCDB Section 110 (SCDB Abschnitt 110).

    Choose approaching distance: 500 meters.
    Click Next (Weiter).

    Select acoustic alert.
    Click Next.

       

    Do not checkmark: "Warn only if POI is on route".

    Reason: Our speed camera database works with an accuracy of +/- 20m. Therefore it is possible that the TomTom device won't recognise a speed camera because the program would assume that the speed camera is on the other side of the road due to a slight deviation. In addition there are also many speed cameras that are on the left side of the road but work in both directions or can be swivelled. Therefore, please don't activate this item and all speed cameras will be included in the warnings!

    Click Done.

  3. Now there is a speaker icon in front of the POI category.

  4. Repeat last steps for all SCDB categories.
    At the end, check the entire list for your own safety.
    Only POI categories with a speaker icon bring an acoustic alert.

  5. Go to Settings > Show POI on map (Einstellungen > POI auf Karte anzeigen).

       

    Checkmark all SCDB POI categories.
    Checkmark also 3D view und 2D view.

       

    Speedcams are shown in map with associated icons.
    Note: [88214] is the speedcam ID. Find that speedcam in our speed camera map.

  6. Some devices cannot import icons (e.g. TomTom GO 5200).
    Speedcam POIs are shown with coloured markers.
    Go to Main > Erscheinungsbild > POI-Listen auf der Karte anzeigen.

       

  7. Go to Main > Services > Speedcams (Dienste > Radarkameras > Warnungen deaktivieren).
    If available disable TomTom Live Services to avoid false alerts.

       

 

6 Update speed cameras

    Repeat all steps of the guide above to update speed cameras in your device.
    Advice: Select always same countries (step 1) and icons (step 2). So you get always files with identical file names.
    This makes overwriting very easy.

    Update with method 1
    Copy and paste new OV2 and BMP files to your map folder. Overwrite pre-existing older files.

    Update with method 2
    Import new POI files according to instructions above: Route Planner > My Places > POI files > Import POI file.

    Update with method 3
    Import new POI files according to instructions above: Add community content to my device.

    The settings for alerts and approaching distances will be retained.
    Nevertheless, check all SCDB POI categories are enabled!
    Because it may happen that new POI categories have been added.

    Monthly updates will be recommended.

 

7 Remove speed cameras

  1. Remove with method 1
    Delete SCDB files in your map folder.
    Attention: Do not delete system files!
    Attention: Do not delete file with unknown content!

  2. Remove with method 2
    Click trash icon on Route planner page.

  3. Remove with method 3
    Click Remove on page "Add community content to my device".

  4. Alternatively, reset the TomTom device to factory settings.
